EA_sunroomI get a steady amount of questions about my home. It’s a renovated 1950’s bungalow that belonged to my great aunt and uncle. I lived here with my aunt for a couple years while I finished up college, and a few years ago, I had the opportunity to purchase and make it my home, sweet home. (Something for which I am so grateful!) I’ve since renovated it and have enjoyed making it a light-filled retreat and welcoming place for family and friends. I love decorating. In fact, one of my favorite pastimes is decorating and making a space cozy and inviting. I can spend hours pouring over decor and design inspiration and beautiful pieces that only add to the beauty of a home. Over the years, I’ve added several items to my own home that have become my favorite decor pieces. In no particular order, here they are:

  1. Blue and white ginger jars. A classic for any southern home. These can be pricey, but I found all of mine at Homegoods for less than $30!
  2. French stripe tassel pillow. I love blues and this pillow cover from Caitlin Wilson is definitely my favorite. Durable, polished, and perfect for every day. It’s been a great addition to my sofa.
  3. Antiques. I have a few family antiques in my home, and they are some of the most beloved items I own. They’ve added a little more character to my home, and I appreciate their beauty and history. If you have any antiques that have been handed down to you, consider all options for use. You may not need a cedar chest in your bedroom, but it could make a lovely entry table.
  4. Ikea Sideboard. What a deal! I use this as a media center. Neatly tucks away all media essentials and keeps the room feeling light and airy in bright white.
  5. Beachcomber baskets. Great for added texture and holding all the things!
  6. Pineapple lamp. My affection for pineapples runs deep. This was the best thing to happen to my desktop. (I purchased in white.)
  7. Positano photograph. I dream of traveling across Italy. This photo takes me there every day. It’s a beautiful picture that hangs in my front room and keeps me inspired.
  8. Gilded champagne floor mirror. A statement piece and one of the first things people see when they walk through the front door. It makes the whole room feel bigger. Unfortunately, I can no longer find it online to link here, but Wayfair and One Kings Lane carried the mirror when I purchased it.
  9. Ceramic plate of Mandina’s Restaurant. This was a favorite dining spot for my grandmother and me. My nannie actually purchased this plate for me so I could think of my Maw Maw and also her when I see it.
  10. Mandalay frames from Framebridge. I’ve had a couple photos framed in these frames, and they give me all the beachy, tropical vibes!

So, tell me! What are your favorites? Any decor pieces you absolutely love having in your home?

When it comes to fall, weekends at home watching football, Hallmark movies, napping, and seasonal recipes are never far from our thoughts. As the weather cools, we’re eager to gather with family and friends in cozy environments, and often, good food and conversation are at the center of it all. We don’t mind lingering in the kitchen just a little bit longer, so it’s the perfect time to try new recipes and prepare something everyone will enjoy. Hearty, delicious, comfort food simply can’t be beat during this season, and that’s exactly what I find myself gravitating toward. Here are seven recipes I’d love to try this fall:

  1. Simple Turkey Chili
  2. Crockpot “Baked” Sweet Potatoes
  3. Cauliflower Chowder
  4. Apple & Stilton Harvest Salad
  5. Almond Butter Pancakes (or Classic Buttermilk Pancakes)
  6. Brie, Apple, and Honey Crostini
  7. Apple Cinnamon Rolls with Caramel Frosting

sunroom picIt’s beginning to look a lot like Fall, friends! September arrived and like clockwork, I was ready to put out all the pumpkins and fall decor. Small accents here and there. Cozy blankets placed. Marshmallow pumpkin latte-scented candle lit. I love this time of year.

Here are just a few ways I’m embracing the season at home.

How do you welcome the season into your home? Have you set out any fall decor yet?

reading chairHi, friend! I hope wherever you are, your weekend is off to a pleasant start. I am in the middle of a long weekend, which is proving to be wonderful, despite staying put in my hometown instead of traveling as I initially planned to. I am very much enjoying the time off.

How do you spend your Saturday mornings? Breakfast with family? A trip to the Farmers Market? Brunching? Lounging? Yard work? If I’m not working on a Saturday, I like to enjoy a big (i.e. different from the usual) breakfast – biscuits, sausage or bacon, eggs, or maybe even pancakes or waffles. Having the luxury to lounge about and soak up some quiet time at home is one of my favorite things. Anyway, lets catch up!

This past month has been full of excitement. There have been hurricanes and flooding and fires, and the devastation has hit very close to home. I lived in Texas for several years, and my dad and sister are still there and remained in the Houston area during Harvey. Thankfully they are safe and their homes spared, but so many others (some friends there, too) are dealing with the aftermath of flooding and storm damage. Then came Irma, and now our Florida neighbors and friends are dealing with the same devastation. As someone whose home was once flooded and who dealt with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, I know all too well that these storms change things and we lose things that cannot be replaced. The good news is there is hope! It has been amazing to see the helpers and heroes and communities pull together to help and serve those in need. It will take months to recover and rebuild, but there is strength in community.

A family friend and professional painter is coming over this morning to check out the master bedroom because… it’s time to paint! Remember me mentioning a bedroom update? Currently my room is a light blue (and I’ve loved it for four years!), but I’m ready to bring it back to some kind of white, and I’ve narrowed it down to three colors. More on that later.

Fall. We are less than one week away from the official start of the season, but Fall is already in the air. We had a mini cold front roll through that stayed around for about a week (later, humidity!), and now there are talks about a colder fall and winter in New Orleans (cue happy dance!). I’m not a coffee drinker, but have PSLs returned? I’m already thinking hot chocolate and beignets over here. Pumpkins and foliage and sweater weather are the best, which is probably why Fall is my favorite season. My favorite TV shows return for an all-new season, and people are starting to talk about the holidays! Okay, I may be getting too ahead of myself here, but can you blame me? This time of year is simply the best.

Emily Ley recently released her new Daily and Weekly Simplified Planners for 2018. I decided on the Gold Dot Daily for next year and love it! One of my favorite features  of the new planner is the stickers. So fun! The Simplified Planner has been my go-to planner for several years now, and I’m certain I’m sold on it for life. It’s minimal in design, has a super clean layout, and is easy to use. All holidays are listed. There is a full calendar spread for each month. It’s a great tool to have. Emily also provides awesome tips on how to use and make the most of your planner (including the option for cute accessories that are available in her shop) and has built an incredible community in the process. If you haven’t already, check out the new planners. They are gorgeous! P.S. If you are interested in one of the Weeklies, more will be available in November, so mark your calendar.

Happy weekend!

xo,

Elizabeth

Craving FallWith August nearing its end and school back in session, I am craving fall like nothing else. Honestly, once July 4th is done, I become anxious for the season and all its golden splendor. The crisp, cool air that warrants a cute sweater or scarf and affirms that it’s officially okay to have that hot cocoa. The happy pumpkins on doorsteps and porches. Decorated business doors and windows that celebrate with warm colors and gilded accents, and only heighten your excitement. Fall brings its own kind of magic.

Today, I’m sharing a few items I’m eyeing for the season.

I’ve already purchased the pumpkin pillow cover, and it is even more beautiful in person! This will be going in my sunroom. I also snagged the leopard scarf (a great neutral for fall!), the black bell sleeve top, and the bell sleeve cardigan (love the color so much!).

What styles and decor are on your radar for fall?
