The Warmth of Winter

Cozy blankets and hot tea or cocoa in a beloved mug. Cuddles on the sofa. Rosemary snuggled up next to me while we watch The Parent Trap (new or old)… or her calling me into the room when Hallie (or Susan) meets her mom. Ralph Lauren sweats and socks. Hair tied up with a velvet bow.

Slow mornings that begin in the Word. Tucked in under covers while the world moves fast around you. Time spent journaling. The glow of lamplight. Nat King Cole playing. Conversations over dinner. Crossword puzzles and coloring with Rosemary.

One of our favorite soups, red beans and rice, or chili with cornbread. Warm Italian bread. A warm embrace. Getting takeout from a local spot and watching a classic. A text or call from a loved one. Something baking in the oven. Saturday morning pancakes. Evening walks around the neighborhood.

A hot shower. A soft bath mat underfoot. Freshly laundered towels and bed sheets. Monogrammed pajamas from a close aunt. Reading books in a chair that hugs you.

What most warms you during winter?
