Happy New Year, friend! First entry of 2026…
It’s been a wonderful few weeks, full of family time, birthday celebrations (including Derek’s 40th!), and holiday gatherings. Slow, meaningful, and fun. I took some time away from social media to tune out the noise and worries of the world and to fully embrace the season, and (with the exception of a couple days during travel) I’m continuing that break through January. Truly good for the soul.
A new year feels like a fresh start, and while I’m not one to write out resolutions, there’s one idea I’m set on: planting good seed.
Yes, planting good seed. We always reap what we sow, and I think that’s something worth remembering and that I remind myself of regularly. Because the future you wish to see, depends on the seeds you plant today. Be faithful to steward and tend to what you sow, even when you don’t yet see the fruit because at the right time, you will. Seedtime and harvest is not just a natural law, it’s a spiritual law direct from Scripture.
“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” Galatians 6:7-9
Where are you wanting to see a harvest? Plant the seed for that harvest! Is it in your marriage? Friendship? Your business or talent? Your finances? Your health? Your children? Your community? Your relationship with God? Plant the seeds. It’s not too late to start; there is potential within every seed. Redeem the time!
A note I’ve kept from Barry Bennett:
How do you redeem the time? Begin sowing! Sow God’s Word into your heart. Sow love, joy, forgiveness, and peace. Serve someone. Write that encouraging email. Send that uplifting text. Volunteer. Give. Plant seeds today! Because when you sow, time begins to work for you – that’s how you redeem it.
“See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” Ephesians 5:15-16
What seeds will you plant today?
